Sudha Arts
Artist Profile
Thank you for taking a look at my paintings. A self taught artist, I learnt looking at the beautiful scenery of central India. Born and brought up Satara (Maharashtra, India), I have grown up looking at mountains and rivers and all sorts of natural beauty.

Winning several awards for my drawing and rangoli designs while in school spurred me on to develop my skills further. Other major influences on my paintings have been the Indian folk art and traditions.

What started off as hobby more than 30 years ago is today an integral part of my life. I have done extensive work in oil, acrylics, water colours, and fabric painting and even used mixed media such as ceramics and acrylics on canvas. Continuing my work paralleling with my marriage and two kids has been tough, however with both my daughters now married and with much more time on my hand than before, I am now venturing into a still unknown world of 'cyber gallery'.

As an artist I try to constantly innovate and push the boundaries of various media, trying to achieve new effects and textures by using a couple or even all of them together. I have used oil paints on ceramic pots to re-create the magic of the Ajanta-Ellora paintings, Chinese paintings as well as murals on pots. At the same time I have used clay to create new textures and dimensions on canvas. Although my favorite style remains water colours, I love the versatility and the fun in mixing different media to get a sometimes-surprising effect.

In my online gallery, you will find works in acrylic, oil, and water colours. The paintings in mixed media have shells, glass pieces, sand, paper, and oil colours on canvas. All these are for sale. I also do pieces on commission and if you like a particular style do drop an email at sudha@sudhaarts.com and I will send you a more in depth portfolio of that style. Keep visiting to know my latest experiments.
